Today I'm playing follow my muse
So far my muse wants me to buy eggs, so can make a lemon drizzle cake and embroidery thread. I remind my muse that this is a writing day, that I have deadlines and stories to tell. My muse says, just go along with it, you’ve got plenty of time. Besides, this’ll be fun. So I’m following my muse. At the very least, there’ll be cake.

A story for Valentine's Day
Happy Valentine’s Day! Me and Valentine’s Day ( I could say “Valentine’s Day and I” but that just sounds so ridiculously formal, and well, now I’ve established that I know the correct grammar, I feel that I can break the rule with impunity)… So, where was I? Ah yes - me. Valentine’s day. We don’t really get on. Not because we hate each other or...

Humid with the possibility of some reading
Not a bad day today. Made epic bike journeys from South London to East London to North London to West London and back to South London. Weather wasn’t sunny but warmish and humid. Scored half price copies of The Boys by Garth Ennis Volumes 1-4 and Transmetropolitan - Lonely City by Warren Ellis, £36 well spent. I am heavy into graphic novels/comics/whatever you want to call them but at...

Too many writers are so damn defensive of their work and just don’t want to listen. Ever go to Zoetrope? Or did I ask you that already? I can take crit from people who give useful and thoughtful crit. Sometimes I listen, sometimes I don’t. :) Can’t say that...

Didn’t think you need to mention her age twice. I’m guessing all the ‘anyways’ are on purpose, but they are a bit distracting. Solid start :] Thanks HHH! Was just “stream of conciousness-ing”...

Poetry interrupted. How about a story instead?
So I’m a little behind on the poems. Nothing’s coming at the moment. I think I’ve just hit the wall, so I’m going to just leave my brain to stew for a few days and then catch up. In the meantime, I was working on this just before I started the NaPoWriMo challenge. Just an exercise trying to to tell a story from a teenage character/voice perspective. MILF So Dad...

KFC presents... Death Soup
This is a facebook discussion that I’ve been having with a friend on the KFC “chickwich”. I think we all know that this is the next step in the colonel’s journey towards world annihilation.

On happiness
Life is hard. There is all manner of crazy and fucked up and sad as infinite as grains of sand, each grain unique with it’s own brand of pain. We all suffer. It’s mankind’s default position. It’s easy. Being happy, on the other hand, that takes hard work and that’s why I need to say this: Work hard at being happy. It is your right but you have to take it. Work at it...

Absolutely! And then there are those songs that give you the tingles and the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It’s like a tiny blast of nuclear energy right into the core of your soul. Music is a powerful thing.

On love
I’ve been thinking about love for a long time now, trying to figure out what it all means, to me personally and in a wider context and have been thinking about posting my thoughts about it but everything just kept getting jumbled in my head. Trying to convey what you know about anything is hard. But what you know about love? Well, what does anyone know? Anyway, today I tried to write down...

An example of eyes bigger than belly syndrome
I can only eat one sausage sandwich. It has been ever thus. I know this. My belly knows this. I made two sausage sandwiches anyway. Just. In. Case. Guess what happened? Yeah… Anyone fancy a spare sausage sandwich?

NaPoWriMo!
It’s April 1st, the first day of National Poetry Writing Month and this year, like the last, I will be taking the 30/30 challenge to write 30 poems in 30 days. I’ll be doing this with a whole load of other poets up on Facebook but I’ll be posting my first drafts on here. Woohoo! I love the 30/30 challenge. Find out more about National Poetry Writing Month

You know that tired adage "write what you know"?
delgrosso: It’s utter crap. Forget it. At the very least, outgrow it. Write what you want to know. Confront the questions and puzzles and secrets and I-wonder-hows and what-ifs that itch at the back of your brain late at night, and make up the answers. Just make them up. Then write the living fuck out of them. This is perfect. There is nothing more to add. It is going on my wall.

Hurrah! Second story finished. The experiment is working. Who knew that the most effective incentive for me to write (in a disciplined way) would also be my most effective distraction from writing. Ah, sweet, sweet interwebz. How I love you/hate you.
Mar 30th
Trying to ration my internet usage. 1 story finished = 1 hour of internet time. So far it’s working and I have approximately 21 minutes of internet time left before the next story. Suddenly surfing time is precious time.

Writers write, right?
Writing is about getting your work done and getting your work done every day - Michael Chabon I would like to say that I’m getting the hang of this. That everyday I pick up my pen or sit at my keyboard and I make myself write. That every word is golden. That I finish every story. But that’s not what’s happening. I hate how lazy I am. How I get so enthusiastic about writing and...
